In the afternoon hours of today, Saturday, December 9, 2023, former President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone made his second appreance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Freetown to respond to questions as part of the ongoing investigation into the foiled attempted coup on November 26.
“UPDATE: Saturday 9th December, 2023 12:30 As indicated yesterday, the former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, HE Ernest Bai Koroma has reported to the police this morning as he continues to support the investigation into the tragic incidents of 26th November,” the Office of the Former President posted on social media.
Contrary to earlier reports, he was not placed under house arrest upon reporting, as clarified by the former president’s office and Information Minister Chernor Bah.
Minister Bah stated that the two-time elected president requested additional security, a request promptly fulfilled, dispelling rumors of house arrest.
Koroma’s voluntarily appeared for further questioning, demonstrating his commitment to aiding the investigation.
The investigation revolves around the thwarted coup on November 26, implicating several of Koroma’s former bodyguards.
Despite being under scrutiny, Koroma unequivocally condemned the coup and reiterated his willingness to fully cooperate with the police in their inquiries.
