Freetown, August 27, 2025 – Journalist Thomas Dixon, Managing Editor of the New Age Newspaper and Chairman of the Guild of Newspaper Editors, has been granted bail set at NLe 100,000 as investigations continue into a case brought against him by Leone Rock Metal Group.
The mining company filed a complaint alleging “cyberstalking and bullying,” prompting a probe by the Sierra Leone Police under the Cyber Security and Crimes Act 2022.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) confirmed Dixon’s release and voiced concern about the application of the Cyber Security law.
The association urged law enforcement and regulatory institutions to uphold the safety and protection of media practitioners.
“SLAJ is closely monitoring this case and continues to remind the authorities of the critical role journalists play in a democracy,” the statement read.
The matter is expected to return for further legal proceedings in the coming days.
