On Wednesday, 11th June 2025** – In a coordinated effort to address urban indiscipline and reclaim public spaces, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) carried out a major clearance operation along King Harman Road and the Old Railway Line in Brookfields.
The exercise was supervised by the Regional Commander for Freetown West, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester M.N. Koroma.
The operation, spearheaded by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Osman Kamara, Local Unit Commander of the Central Division, and Ing.
Tommy from the SLRA, focused on dismantling unauthorized structures and removing illegal activities from road reserves. These areas had been overtaken by street traders, tricycle (keke) operators, and commercial motorbike (okada) riders, creating congestion and safety risks.
With personnel strategically deployed, the SLP ensured the exercise was executed smoothly, maintaining a peaceful and professional approach with minimal disruption to residents and road users.
This move is part of a broader government campaign to curb lawlessness and enforce urban planning regulations, spearheaded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The initiative is being led by Retired AIG Morie Lengor Esq., who chairs a multi-agency task force comprising the SLP, SLRA, and Freetown City Council (FCC). The task force is mandated to restore order in public spaces, particularly in high-traffic areas across the city.
AIG Koroma reiterated the police force’s commitment to supporting development-oriented government policies and instructed CSP Kamara to maintain consistent law enforcement presence in the cleared areas to prevent reoccupation.
Authorities say this operation marks a significant step towards responsible urban management and is expected to continue in other parts of the city in the coming weeks.
