Amidst swirling rumors and social media speculations, the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers Union (SLMDU) has officially quashed any talks of an impending strike on Monday, September 11, 2023.
In a strongly-worded press release, the union’s leadership unequivocally distanced themselves from any assertions linking them to such actions:
“The Leadership of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union (MD>WU) vehemently disavows all circulating statements on social media and public gatherings regarding a proposed strike or sit-down action by commercial transport (motor vehicle) drivers scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2023.
We want to make it abundantly clear that these statements do not originate from our organization, and we bear no responsibility for them.
While our union is not averse to industrial action, we emphasize that any such action must follow the proper procedures and protocols.
Regarding the alleged strike on Monday, September 11, 2023, the Union has no involvement whatsoever, and we urge all our members not to participate in any activities that could disrupt the peace and stability of our nation.
We assure the public that regular commercial transport services will continue as usual, with no disruption to the free movement of people and goods.”
This is a national issue. Why must you disassociate yourself from this?
