FREETOWN, 25th August, 2023 — In a formal announcement from the Government of Sierra Leone, Mr. Abu Bakarr Karim has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
The decision was made in accordance with Section 153 (2) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 (Act No. 6 of 1991). The President, Brig. (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, expressed his pleasure in appointing Mr. Karim to this crucial diplomatic position.
The appointment is now pending approval from Parliament, and Mr. Karim has been advised to liaise with the Clerk of Parliament.
The Clerk will arrange a meeting with the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service of Parliament, where his appointment will be reviewed. If approved, Mr. Karim will assume his role as Ambassador to China.
Upon parliamentary approval, Mr. Karim will receive further communication outlining the specific Terms and Conditions of his ambassadorial appointment.
The Government expects that this appointment will foster stronger ties between Sierra Leone and the People’s Republic of China.
