Bassa Town — Pupils of the REC School in Bassa Town staged a protest on Monday after learning that part of their school’s land had allegedly been sold to a Lebanese national.
The development sparked outrage among students and community members, who insist the land belongs to the school and should not be tampered with.
Demonstrators said they were determined to stop construction already underway on the disputed site, accusing unnamed community figures of secretly selling off the property.
“This is our school land, and we will not allow anyone to take it away,” one protesting pupil shouted during the demonstration.
The protest drew immediate intervention from local authorities. Western Area Rural District Council Chairman, Kashor J. Holland Cole, and Local Unit Commander, Superintendent Bankolay Mansaray, rushed to the scene in an attempt to calm tempers.
Police have arrested two individuals for questioning in connection with the alleged land sale, while investigations continue to determine who authorized the deal.
Although the situation has since returned to calm, pupils and residents remain defiant, vowing to resist any further attempts to transfer school property into private hands.
