In a dramatic turn of events, Hawa Hunt, a contestant on the popular reality show House of Stars, was arrested live on television yesterday.
The arrest is reportedly linked to controversial remarks Hunt allegedly made about President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio during Sierra Leone’s recent election campaign.
The incident has ignited a heated public debate, with many questioning the decision to detain her during a live broadcast.
Amid the uproar, Hunt’s management team has reportedly issued a public apology to the First Family. The statement reads:
“We, the management of Hawa Hunt, sincerely apologize to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and Her Excellency the First Lady, Madam Fatima Bio, for a viral video released on May 2, 2023, featuring Hawa. The words she used were inappropriate and do not reflect her true feelings. We humbly seek forgiveness and hope these remarks will be viewed as an error of judgment made in the heat of the moment during the election period.”
The statement went on to highlight Hunt’s dedication to the show, noting her journey from Canada to Sierra Leone to chase her dreams. Her management appealed to her supporters and the public to join in seeking clemency for the reality star.
The apology concluded with a broader appeal: “We extend our apologies to all Sierra Leoneans for any discomfort caused. We implore His Excellency and Her Excellency to forgive Hawa and allow her to continue her journey on the show.”
The incident continues to dominate public discourse, with supporters and critics weighing in on the implications for freedom of expression and the role of reality television in sensitive political matters.
I hope they will equally so do arrest those that burnt the houses of APC supporters in the south east and also uses derogatory words directed to the members of the opposition both in the south eastern Sierra Leone and other party of Sierra Leone during elections campaign. We urge the government to be neutral and stop being bias over issues concerning all Sierra Leoneans. The arrest of Hawa Hunt is inappropriate, bias and she must be released immediately . SLPP paopa government must stop the political intimation, harrassment and embarrassment of citizens.
