Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio engaged in constructive discussions with representatives from the Commonwealth Good Offices for Peace and the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion.

The talks revolved around the government’s unwavering dedication to bolstering democracy, upholding the rule of law, and fostering peace within the nation.

In a reassuring message to the mediation parties, including ECOWAS, President Bio expressed his administration’s willingness to collaborate with all Sierra Leoneans, including the Opposition Party, APC.

Emphasizing the common goal of peace and progress for the country, he extended an invitation to the APC to join efforts in fortifying democratic State Institutions.

He stated, “As we continue to pursue a common ground for the advancement of our country, I invite the APC to work with us in strengthening our democratic State Institutions by:

1. Encouraging their elected officials, including Members of Parliament, Councillors, Chairs, and Mayors, to take their rightful seats and responsibilities entrusted to them by our citizens.

2. Participating in the comprehensive and independent review of all Election Management Bodies and subsequent implementation of recommendations, to be conducted with the support of our national and international partners.

3. Participating in broader governance improvements for state institutions, including the justice sector reform and our constitutional review processes.”

President Bio also called upon the security sector personnel to safeguard the fundamental rights to life and freedom for all citizens.

As the Commander-In-Chief, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Sierra Leone’s core values of peace, unity, freedom, and justice.
