The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have intensified enforcement operations aimed at removing illegal street garages, abandoned vehicles, and unauthorised structures in the central part of Freetown.
On Thursday, 22 January 2026, the Local Unit Commander of the Central Police Division, ACP John Fayiah Tumbay, led the operation as police teams carried out raids along Dwazark, Bismarck Johnson Street, and Black Street.
The exercise focused on removing abandoned vehicles that had been converted into street garages, causing obstruction, discomfort, and safety concerns for road users and members of the surrounding communities.
Some of the abandoned vehicles were reportedly being used as dwelling places and as hideouts for criminal activities, thereby posing serious security risks.
Residents of the affected streets commended the police for the timely intervention and described the operation as a remarkable step towards restoring order and safety.
They also applauded the SLP and called for the continuation of similar operations in other parts of the Western Area.
