Freetown, September 15, 2023 – In a significant legal development, Principal Magistrate Mark Ngegba, presiding over Pademba Road Magistrate’s Court No.1, has ruled to commit Police Officer William Sawyer to the High Court for the alleged unlawful possession of Kush.
The accused, William Sawyer, a member of the police force, found himself in court facing charges related to the unlawful possession of Kush, a violation of Section 8 (a) of the National Drug Control Act No.10 of 2008.
Sawyer, residing at Timaya Ground in Kaningo, and Sulaiman Sesay from New Camp, Grafton village in Waterloo, appeared separately in court, both accused of the same offense.
Sawyer was apprehended with 25.5 grams of Kush in his possession, lacking any lawful authorization.
After careful consideration, Principal Magistrate Mark Ngegba deemed that there was a prima facie case against William Sawyer, warranting a trial in the High Court.
The proceedings are set to commence following the preparation of an indictment in the upcoming Criminal Session.
Meanwhile, Sulaiman Sesay’s case is scheduled for the 18th of September, 2023.
Both accused individuals, William Sawyer and Sulaiman Sesay, have been denied bail and remanded in custody at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
