A personnel of the Operational Support Division (OSD) of the Sierra Leone Police has been killed while providing security at a piece of land under court injunction in Madonkeh, on the outskirts of Waterloo.
The officer was allegedly overpowered and disarmed by a group of suspected gang members before being brutally attacked with machetes, the OSD Media Team has reported.
A rapid response followed. A Strike Force team from OSD Headquarters, commanded by Commissioner of Police Alhaji Ibrahim Mohamed Sama (also known as Delta-1), moved in alongside OSD personnel from the Waterloo Division under Inspector Idrissa Koroma, OC/OSD.
During the operation, two serving members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) were arrested. One of them was found in possession of the deceased officer’s loaded AK-47 rifle. An exchange of gunfire took place before a team of RSLAF personnel led by Colonel Robin arrived at the scene.
The two soldiers, together with more than 20 other suspects, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Officers are actively searching for additional people believed to be connected to the killing.
