Casablanca, Morocco – In a thrilling match on October 17, 2023, Sierra Leone’s national football team, Leone Stars, claimed a resounding 2-0 victory over Somalia’s “Ocean Stars” at Stade Bechir in Casablanca, Morocco.
This win marks a promising start for the newly appointed Head Coach Amidu Karim, who secured his first victory with Leone Stars in just his second game since taking over from John Keister.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Mohamed Buya Turay scored a crucial goal for Sierra Leone from a penalty kick, with Sierra Leone maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half continued to be a fierce battle, with both teams showing great determination. However, the outstanding Mohamed Buya Turay managed to find the net once again in the 58th minute, further extending Leone Stars’ lead to 2-0. This is his third goals in two matches in a row for Leone Stars.
Earlier on Saturday, October 14th, Sierra Leone faced Benin’s Cheetahs in their opening match of the October international friendlies, playing to a 1-1 draw. However, the Leone Stars’ impressive performance against Somalia has set a positive tone for the team under their new leadership.
