Lawyer and Member of Parliament Honourable Moiwo Gevao has demanded immediate police action following the brutal murder of his son, Emmanuel Tamba Gevao, at Amani Nightclub on Beccles Street, Brookfields. The killing marks the third violent death reportedly linked to the establishment, according to the grieving father.
In an interview with Sierraeye Magazine, Honourable Gevao expressed frustration over the lack of progress in prior investigations and the nightclub’s continued operation.
“My son, a 28-year-old University of Sierra Leone graduate who taught young people at the University of Sierra Leone and various secondary schools, was killed in cold blood. It’s devastating,” he said.
Hon. Gevao revealed that two previous murders at the same venue remain unsolved, forcing him to gather evidence himself, including facilitating the arrest of a kekeh (rickshaw) driver and a woman who saw his son that night. “I have had to do the police’s work,” he said, noting that he reported the case to the Central Police Station on June 20, 2025.
Despite the nightclub’s tragic history, it remains operational. “The police should have shut this place down long ago,” Hon. Gevao stated, urging law enforcement to investigate the premises for evidence, including a potential murder weapon. “If my son’s case remains unsolved, the murderer will strike again, leaving another family to suffer.”
The MP’s anguish is compounded by the recent loss of his brother, Sergeant Brima Gevao, who was allegedly poisoned and died within hours. “Losing two family members in 33 days shows the alarming rate of murder in this city,” he said.
Hon. Gevao criticized the police for allowing the nightclub to function while claiming the proprietor is under arrest. “This undermines the investigation’s seriousness,” he argued, raising concerns about public safety and law enforcement’s effectiveness in addressing crime.
The wife of Amani Nightclub’s proprietor, speaking anonymously to SierrsEye, denied the murder occurred on their premises, noting that Beccles Street hosts multiple nightclubs. “Because we are the most prominent club, people assume it is us,” she said.
Sierraeye has repeatedly sought comment from the Sierra Leone Police on the investigation’s status, but these efforts have been unsuccessful.
As Honourable Hindolo Gevao seeks justice for his son and the community, his plea underscores the urgent need for action. “We need results, not just words. The lives of our young people depend on it,” he said, determined to prevent further tragedies.
