FREETOWN, 23rd September 2026 – Sierra Leonean teenage midfielder Mohamed Kamara, popularly known as “Ballon d’Or”, has completed a permanent transfer to Swedish club IFK Värnamo.
Värnamo have triggered the buy-option in his loan deal from local champions AIK Freetong, with the 18-year-old signing a five-year contract that will run from 1st January 2027 to December 2031.
Kamara joined the club on loan ahead of the 2026 season for their campaign in Superettan, the Swedish second tier. Despite an early injury setback that kept him out for weeks, he has made 11 appearances, including one start, as a holding midfielder, impressing the technical team with his composure and passing range.
IFK Värnamo, based in Värnamo, were relegated from the Allsvenskan top flight last season and are pushing for promotion. The club has a history of developing African talents for the Scandinavian top leagues.
The move marks a major leap for the former Bai Bureh Warriors FC star, who rose through the Sierra Leone Premier League before joining AIK Freetong in early 2025. His form earned him a first senior call-up for the Leone Stars, making his debut against Ethiopia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in March.
Kamara is widely regarded as one of Sierra Leone’s brightest prospects in the U-20 set-up and was named in the Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.
In a statement, his agency hailed it as the start of a new era for their “golden boy”, thanking Patrick Mork of Global Soccer Management / Sportgenia and Numukeh Tunkara of FellaSports Management for facilitating the deal.
He will remain on loan at Värnamo for the rest of the 2026 Superettan season before his permanent contract takes effect in January.
