Freetown, May 7, 2025 — The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has firmly rejected a viral social media report that alleges the Minister of Education, Mr. Conrad Sackey, has ordered schools to abandon the new curriculum and return to the old one for next year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry described the report as “false, misleading and entirely baseless.”
“There has been no directive whatsoever from the Honourable Minister or any official of the Ministry instructing schools to discontinue the new curriculum,” MBSSE stated.
“These claims are not only untrue but are clearly intended to cause confusion among educators, students, and parents.”
The Ministry emphasized its continued commitment to the ongoing curriculum reform, which it says is designed to improve educational outcomes across the country. Officials urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify any educational announcements through official MBSSE channels.
“We strongly advise the public, especially our stakeholders in the education sector, to disregard unverified reports and instead seek accurate information from our official communication platforms,” the Ministry added.
The MBSSE called on individuals and groups spreading such misinformation to desist, warning that deliberate attempts to misinform the public undermine national education progress.
