In a bid to address the ongoing electricity supply issues in Freetown, the Turkish company Karpowership is gearing up to resume partial electricity supply to the capital city of Sierra Leone.
Following negotiations between the company and the government, an agreement has been reached for the resumption of services in the imminent future.
This development comes after previous attempts to establish a payment plan, which had not been adhered to by the Sierra Leonean government, resulting in millions of dollars in outstanding payments to Karpowership. Both parties have decided to continue discussions on payment matters in the upcoming week.
While the specific terms of the new agreement have not yet been made public, Karpowership has affirmed its commitment to being a reliable partner to Sierra Leone. The company has stated its dedication to addressing the challenges faced in energy generation and ensuring continuous electricity supply for essential public services.
Despite facing a period of nonpayment that led to the suspension of most operations, Karpowership has continued to provide crucial electricity generation for the benefit of the citizens. They are actively engaging with officials to work towards a sustainable solution to the current situation.
The government of Sierra Leone has not released an official statement regarding the payment negotiations with Karpowership, but the imminent resumption of partial electricity supply brings hope to the residents of Freetown. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
