In a historic move, Hon. Justice Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara has been appointed as the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Law at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
The appointment follows the provisions outlined in Section 38 of the Universities Act, 2021.
Justice Binneh-Kamara brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as the Head of Department at the University of Sierra Leone’s Law department from January 2017 to January 2023. Additionally, he held the position of Assistant/Professional Dean at the Faculty of Law, University of Sierra Leone, Freetown, Sierra Leone, from July 2020 to September 2023.
A distinguished Sierra Leonean, Justice Dr. Abou Bhakarr Muhammed Binneh-Kamara currently holds a position as a Justice of Sierra Leone’s Superior Court of Judicature.
He is also a research student in the School of Law, Politics, and Sociology, Department of Law, pursuing a Ph.D. in Law Studies under the guidance of Dr. Judith Townend and Prof. Lindsay Stirton.
His research encompasses a broad spectrum, including political philosophy and jurisprudence, constitutionalism and human rights, as well as international law and media and telecommunications law.
The appointment of Justice Binneh-Kamara as the Dean marks a significant milestone in the advancement of legal education at Fourah Bay College.
