Freetown, September 25, 2025 — Appeal Court Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens has taken the rare step of pursuing legal action against his alleged partner in a domestic violence case that has stirred national debate.
According to court records, Justice Stevens reported that 21-year-old Edwina Hawa Jamiru assaulted and intimidated him during an incident on August 27 at his residence on Kowa Drive, Mothormeh Regent.
The matter is being heard before Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon at Pademba Road Court No. 3.
Jamiru faces three counts under Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007. When the case was first called on Monday, September 23, she failed to appear, prompting Police Prosecutor Inspector Mohamed Kamara to seek a bench warrant, which the magistrate promptly granted. Jamiru was later arrested and remanded.
The proceedings, adjourned to September 25, have drawn intense public attention because the complainant is a senior member of the judiciary, underscoring that Sierra Leone’s domestic violence laws apply equally—even when the victim is one of the country’s top judges.
