The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has presented another cheque worth Le1,000,000 (One Billion Old Leones) to the Freetown City Council (FCC) as part of ongoing efforts to recover funds misappropriated from the Council’s accounts.
The symbolic handover took place on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the ACC headquarters, Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown. The cheque was presented by the ACC Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., to the FCC Chief Administrator, Rahman Tom Farmar.
According to the ACC, this payment represents the second tranche of recovered funds following investigations into the alleged diversion of Le3,000,000 (Three Billion Old Leones) from the Council’s revenue. The funds were reportedly siphoned through the FCC Football Club account, which was used as a conduit for the illicit transfers.
In his remarks, Commissioner Kaifala reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to recovering all public funds lost to corruption, noting that “the ACC remains resolute in promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in public institutions.”
Receiving the cheque, Chief Administrator Rahman Tom Farmar expressed appreciation to the Commission, describing the recovery as timely support for the Council’s operations. “This payment could not have come at a better time,” he said.
The brief ceremony was attended by senior ACC officials, including Director of Finance Sheku Kanu and Deputy Director of Investigation Joseph Noah.
It could be recalled that on July 9, 2025, the ACC handed over the first recovered cheque of Le1,000,000 (One Billion Old Leones) to the Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, from the same case.
The recovery forms part of the Commission’s broader mandate to ensure that stolen public funds are returned to the people of Sierra Leone.
