The grandmother of a five-year-old boy whose lifeless body was discovered in a neighbour’s compound in Waterloo has recounted the painful events leading up to the tragic incident.
Agnes Labor Kamara broke down in tears as she spoke about her grandson, Amin Bedor Bangura, a Nursery Two pupil who was found dead less than 100 meters from their residence at White Stone Garage in Waterloo, Western Area Rural District.
Clutching a photograph of the young boy displayed on her wall, Kamara said the sight of his image deepens her grief. “It is so hard to watch. Seeing his photo hurts me,” she said quietly.
Amin, who would have celebrated his sixth birthday on May 22 this year, had only recently moved to the area with his family, barely three months before his death.
According to an autopsy report dated February 23, 2026, the child died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, chest, left upper limb and spine. The medical findings described severe trauma, including extensive skull fractures, spinal dislocation, manual strangulation and evidence of sexual assault.
The incident unfolded on the evening of February 19, when Amin left home to call his elder brother, Mohamed, who was playing nearby. When Mohamed returned alone, the family immediately became alarmed.
Kamara said they searched playgrounds, neighbouring compounds and several mosques in the community, considering it was the holy month of Ramadan and the possibility that the child may have followed friends for prayers.
“That was the first time he had gone that far in the neighbourhood,” she explained. “Since we recently relocated, we were not familiar with everyone around.”
By 8 p.m. that same evening, Kamara reported the matter to a nearby police station in Waterloo and provided a statement.
Kweku Aidoo, a nephew of the deceased, said the family searched throughout the night without rest, combing the area from about 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning.
Their search ended tragically on February 20, when they were directed to a store within a neighbour’s compound, where Amin’s body was discovered.
Aidoo alleged that the landlord of the compound, identified as Samuel Williams, had reportedly heard a child crying during the night. However, he said Williams’ tenant, Lucinda Conteh, assured him that everything was fine, despite not having any children living with her.
The child’s father, Mohamed Bedor Bangura, who has three sons, has called for justice. “I want justice for my child. If the perpetrator goes unpunished, there is every tendency for the individual to carry out similar acts against another parent,” he said.
He confirmed that the alleged suspect, Lucinda Conteh, was arrested on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Police have since declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
The community in Waterloo remains in shock as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s death.
