The family of the late Lansana Sheriff, popularly known as Steady Bongo, has officially announced funeral arrangements for the celebrated musical legend and cultural hero, who passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the age of 58.
Steady Bongo is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fatmata Jarai Sheriff, five children, a daughter-in-law, and his elder brother, Dr. Lansana Nyalley. He is mourned by an extended network of family, friends, musicians, cultural groups, and communities in Sierra Leone and abroad.
Funeral Program:
– Civic Ceremony & Condolence Signing
A civic laying-out ceremony and signing of the book of condolence will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the New City Hall Auditorium in Freetown.
– Body Conveyance
The remains of the late Steady Bongo will be transported from Freetown on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., with scheduled stops at Masiaka, Mile 91, Moyamba Junction, Tiama, Bo, Kenema, and Segbwema before reaching Daru, Jawe Chiefdom, Kailahun District.
– Vigil
Vigils will be held on the evening of Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. in Daru and Bombohun Towns, Jawe Chiefdom.
– Burial*
The burial ceremony is set for Monday, December 23, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Bombohun, Jawe Chiefdom, Kailahun District.
