Last week, there was a dramatic drop in the pump price of Petrol and Diesel by some fuel stations around the country. Although the price drop did not come from the regulators (NPRA) people were hopeful that NPRA would eventually reduce the price of fuel soon.
But that did not happen. Our source revealed that, on Friday, 13th February 2025, a meeting was convened at State House, which attracted all stakeholders in the fuel industry and relevant government officials to address the fuel issue.
At the end of the meeting, the fuel dealers who were selling their fuel below the stipulated government price of NLe 27.4 must raise the price of fuel back to the official government price.
Over the weekend, most of the fuel stations that were selling below the official price had reverted to the old price due to pressure from government officials.
Zala Petroleum is the only fuel station that is still selling at NLe 26.00
Speaking to Mr. Turay of Zala Petroleum, he said “we were selling at NLe 25.00, but after the meeting on Friday at State House, we were left with no option but to sell at our previous price”. Instead of selling at NLe 27.00, we have decided to share our NLe 1.00 profit with our people, and we are now selling at NLe 26.00.
The silence of the regulators (NPRA) on this issue is a billion-dollar question on the lips of many Sierra Leoneans.
