Freetown, August 13, 2024 – Four individuals have been remanded in custody following their alleged involvement in a theft at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) sub-office in Goderich, Freetown.
The accused—Emmanuel Sorie Kamara, 47, a driver; Melvin Philip, 37, unemployed; Alie Koroma, 24, a security guard; and Mark Sahr Njah, 34, a technician—are reported to have conspired with Abdul Bangura, 27, a businessman, to commit larceny at the EDSA sub-station on July 22, 2024. The group allegedly stole a drum of cables valued at 12,000 Leones, the property of EDSA.
In addition to the stolen drum, the accused were reportedly found in possession of a black cable suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.
Abdul Bangura was allegedly caught with five rolls of cables, 92 connectors, 15 screw installers, and four brown circles, all believed to be stolen.
The five men appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2, facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, larceny, and unlawful possession.
All of the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Defense counsel Chernor Kamara sought bail for his clients, but Magistrate Bangura denied the request for all except the fourth accused, who had already been granted bail in a previous session.
The case has been adjourned to August 19, 2024.
