Freetown, July 9, 2025 — A somber cloud hangs over the Fourah Bay College (FBC) community following the sudden and tragic death of one of its students, Vivian Sandy, who lost her life in a devastating road accident on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at the Bottom Mango Junction along Blackhall Road, Kissy Brook. According to eyewitness reports, a heavy-duty truck struck Vivian, fatally running over her head. She died instantly at the scene.
Vivian, a second-year student at FBC, was reportedly on her way to attend night classes in preparation for her upcoming examinations. Her determination and commitment to her studies have been remembered as a reflection of her strong character, academic drive, and dreams for a brighter future.
Friends and fellow students have described her as intelligent, hardworking, and deeply admired by many.
As investigations into the accident continue, calls have intensified for improved road safety measures around busy student routes, particularly in areas frequented at night.
This is one of recent road accidents that have led to the death of young people in the country. Last month, a third year student of IPAM tragically lost her life in a road accident along Lumley Road involving two motorists.
Vivian Sandy’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
May she rest in peace.🕊️
