The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has officially announced the conduct of a bye-election for the position of District Council Chairman in Kenema District.
This announcement follows a notification from the Chief Administrator of the Kenema District Council, received on August 7, 2024, which reported a vacancy due to the sudden death of the former Chairman.
“The Commission was notified of the unfortunate passing of Mr. Mohamed Amadu Sesay, who died at the Kenema Government Hospital on August 6, 2024,” the ECSL statement read. “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
In line with the powers vested in it by the Constitution of Sierra Leone and the Public Elections Act 2022, the ECSL has outlined the timeline for the bye-election.
“Nominations for the position of District Council Chairman will take place from Wednesday, October 2 to Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the ECSL Office on Reservation Road, Off Maxwell Khobie Street, Kenema District,” the Commission stated.
The polling day for the election has been scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, according to the ECSL.
