The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has committed $100,000 to fund community development initiatives in Sierra Leone’s Peace Diamond Village, home to one of the world’s most celebrated ethical diamond discoveries.
The pledge was unveiled during a high-profile closing ceremony at a dedicated diamond-industry forum in Dubai, attended by renowned diamond activist and pricing pioneer Martin Rapaport.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, personally handed over the symbolic cheque to Abu Brima, Executive Director of the Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD), the respected Sierra Leone-based NGO that will channel and oversee every dollar of the contribution.
All proceeds will go directly toward essential infrastructure and livelihood projects in the village, underscoring DMCC’s long-standing focus on responsible sourcing and tangible impact in diamond-origin communities.
“This donation reflects our belief that the diamond trade must deliver real, lasting benefits to the people and places where these gems are found,” Bin Sulayem said following the presentation.
The move strengthens DMCC’s reputation as a global hub that actively bridges international markets with grassroots development in producing regions, ensuring local communities share in the value created by their natural resources.
