September 17th, 2024 – The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has provided updates on the second day of rescue operations in the seven-story building that collapsed yesterday afternoon at Shell New Raod, Freetown.
Below are the day 2 updates provided by NDMA:
Fatalities:
– Total: 9
– 2 adult males
– 3 adult females
– 2 girls under the age of 5
– 2 boys under the age of 5
Survivors:
– Total: 7
– 5 currently receiving treatment at Rokupa Hospital
– 2 referred to Choithram Hospital for advanced medical care
Trapped Victims:
– Status: Unknown
– It is believed that more individuals remain trapped beneath the debris.
The NDMA, alongside its partners, remains fully committed to the ongoing search and rescue operations, with the primary goal of locating and safely recovering any trapped individuals.
The Agency extends its deepest appreciation to the Gento Group of Companies and JP Logistics for their invaluable support in providing machinery and fuel free of charge to aid in the rescue efforts.
