Freetown – Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has cautioned bar owners across the country to strictly prevent children under 16 from accessing their premises during operating hours.
Speaking on the issue, Dr. Sengeh stressed that bar operators who fail to comply will be committing a criminal offence, pointing to provisions under the Liquor Licensing Act (1963 Amendment), which will be enforced against defaulters.
He urged bar owners to introduce stricter checks by requesting identification cards before granting entry, noting that this will help safeguard minors from early exposure to alcohol and nightlife settings.
“If you are above 16 and you want to go to a bar, better get your national ID. Together we will deliver a safer environment for our children,” Dr. Sengeh remarked.
The directive is part of broader government efforts to strengthen child protection measures and ensure that leisure spaces adhere to national laws.
