Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has dismissed as “fake and unfounded” a social media report alleging that Chief Justice Komba Kamanda instructed the Sierra Leone Police to release suspects connected to the death of Victor Effon Johannes Onie-Williams.
The Judiciary issued a statement on Thursday, condemning the claims as an attempt to tarnish the Chief Justice’s reputation.
“The general public is hereby informed that the said matter has not yet been charged to court, and the Honourable Chief Justice has no involvement with matters at the police station,” the statement clarified.
It also urged citizens to disregard the report, calling it a deliberate act to bring the Judiciary into disrepute.
Victor Effon Johannes Onie-Williams, a prominent figure in Sierra Leone, passed away on December 5, 2024, under circumstances that have sparked widespread speculation. Known for his work as a philanthropist and advocate for youth empowerment, Onie-Williams was a respected member of society, with deep roots in his community.
While details surrounding his death remain unclear, reports suggest that law enforcement is actively investigating the matter, though no charges have yet been filed. His sudden demise has left many in shock, with calls for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.
Authorities have urged the public to rely on official statements for updates on the case. Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Police have yet to issue a formal statement on the status of their investigation.
