Freetown, Sierra Leone — In a notable display of cross-party solidarity, President Julius Maada Bio met with leaders of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and the family of the late Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray on Thursday morning.
The veteran politician and National Chairman of the APC passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Dakar, Senegal, after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old, having celebrated his birthday just days earlier on June 12.
In a Facebook post detailing the solemn meeting, President Bio wrote: “I met solemnly this morning with the All People’s Congress leadership and the family of the late National Chairman, Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray. I expressed my deep sorrow at his passing and assured the family and APC leadership of my government’s full support for a dignified funeral.”
He added prayers for the repose of Mansaray’s soul and comfort for the grieving family.
Mansaray, a longtime APC stalwart with over four decades of service to the party, previously served as Deputy Leader and was a member of the influential National Advisory Council. He held key government positions during APC administrations, including Minister of Labour (2007–2010) and Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources. A businessman with a background in insurance, he was widely regarded as a dedicated public servant and political power broker.
His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes across Sierra Leone’s political spectrum. President Bio earlier described him as “a respected statesman and a great politician whose contributions to our nation’s democratic journey will never be forgotten,” extending condolences on behalf of the government, the people of Sierra Leone, and the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The late chairman’s remains are expected to be repatriated to Freetown tomorrow, where funeral arrangements will be finalized. APC members, supporters, and the public are anticipated to pay their respects.
The president’s assurance of state support underscores a commitment to ensuring Mansaray receives a fitting send-off in recognition of his long service to the nation.
