Freetown, Sierra Leone – February 18, 2026: In a heartfelt message marking the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio extended sincere well-wishes to Muslims in Sierra Leone and around the world.
The greeting, shared amid the spiritual anticipation of the Islamic lunar month, emphasizes themes of faith, compassion, and unity.
Beginning with the traditional Islamic salutation, “As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh,” President Bio expressed his hopes for a blessed Ramadan.
“As the holy month begins, may its blessings renew our faith, deepen our compassion, and unite us in service to one another,” he stated. He further wished that all fasts be accepted, prayers answered, and the enduring lessons of patience and generosity carry through the year.
Ramadan, observed by over 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide, involves fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayer, charity, and self-reflection.
In Sierra Leone, where Islam is practiced by a significant portion of the population, the month fosters community gatherings, iftar meals, and acts of kindness.
President Bio’s message aligns with his administration’s focus on national unity and social harmony, especially in a diverse nation recovering from past challenges like the Ebola crisis and economic reforms.
The president concluded with a bold “𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤,” echoing celebrations across the globe.
As Sierra Leoneans join the global ummah in observance, local mosques and communities are preparing for taraweeh prayers and charitable initiatives.
This year’s Ramadan is expected to last until around March 19, depending on moon sightings, promoting spiritual growth and solidarity in uncertain times.
