Julius Maada Bio has joined Christians in Sierra Leone and across the world in observing Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the solemn Lenten season.
In a message issued by State House on Wednesday, the President acknowledged the spiritual significance of the period, describing it as a sacred time dedicated to prayer, fasting, and reflection.
He noted that Lent offers an opportunity for Christians to seek God with humility and renew their faith.
The President encouraged believers to use the forty-day period to promote values that strengthen national unity, including love, compassion, forgiveness, and peace.
He emphasized that spiritual renewal during Lent can contribute to building a more harmonious and caring society.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent in the Christian calendar, a season that commemorates the forty days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the wilderness. Many Christians observe the day by attending church services and receiving ashes as a symbol of repentance.
State House extended its best wishes to Christians nationwide, expressing hope that the Lenten season will be meaningful, blessed, and spiritually fulfilling for all who observe it.
