In a pivotal update on the progress of the Tripartite Committee, the APC party convened a press conference yesterday, April 24, 1024, at its headquarters.
Led by the National Organizing Secretary, Comrade Sidi Yayah Tunis, the conference shed light on the committee’s achievements thus far.
Following the opening remarks by Secretary General Comrade Lansana Dumbuya Esq, attention turned to the APC chair of the Tripartite committees, Dr. Kelfala Marrah, who provided key insights.
Dr. Marrah expressed gratitude to party leadership for the entrusted responsibilities and unity among committee members. He lauded the collaborative efforts that led to modest progress and thanked party members for their patience.
The origins of the Tripartite Committee were outlined, highlighting international mediation efforts following a critical impasse between the government and main opposition party, the APC, post the June 23 election. This led to a landmark peace conference at the Buntumani Hotel from October 16-18, resulting in the National Unity agreement.
The agreement, comprising eight resolutions, mandates actions from both the APC party and the government.
Dr. Marrah stressed the focus on Resolution 3, which involves a thorough examination of electoral processes, including voter registration and election outcomes.
Resolution 8, establishing a committee of Moral Guarantors, was emphasized for overseeing implementation and ensuring accountability.
Clarifying the committee’s composition, Dr. Marrah noted representation from the APC party, government, and international partners led by UN Resident Coordinator, Sarah Finn. The decision-making process, he emphasized, is collaborative, prioritizing Sierra Leone’s interests.
With a commitment to transparency, the press conference underscored the party’s dedication to keeping members informed and engaged, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and cooperation.
