Ankara, Türkiye – The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone has addressed recent video circulating on social media depicting alleged Sierra Leone citizens involved in an accident on the Aegean Sea of Greece.
The embassy issues the following clarifications:
- Following the information, the Embassy and Türkiye’s Sierra Leonean Community leadership took immediate action. It is confirmed that no Sierra Leone citizen has been reported dead on the two boats involved in the accident.
- Two Sierra Leone citizens were on the second boat, which suffered the accident. Fortunately, they have been rescued and are currently receiving medical attention in Izmir.
- The Sierra Leoneans featured in the circulating video have been successfully rescued by Turkish authorities and are now in safe hands.
- The Embassy pledges ongoing collaboration with the Community leadership and Turkish authorities to monitor the situation in the Aegean Sea.
The Embassy urges the public in Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leonean Community in Türkiye to remain informed through official channels and assures continuous efforts to safeguard the welfare of its citizens abroad.
