Makeni — The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has reinstated seven school principals in Bombali District, with their return to their respective schools taking effect on 1 November 2026.
In an update dated 30 October 2026, the Commission confirmed that counselling sessions were held with the reinstated principals ahead of their resumption of duty. The TSC expressed optimism about the principals’ renewed commitment to service and urged school communities, including teachers, pupils, parents, School Management Committees and Boards of Governors, to welcome and accommodate them.
The Commission stressed that such support is essential to promote peaceful and effective learning environments in the affected schools.
Bombali District, in Sierra Leone’s Northern Province with Makeni as its administrative centre, hosts a significant number of government and government-assisted schools serving both urban and rural communities. School principals play a central role under the TSC’s mandate as the employer of teachers and school leaders. They are responsible for day-to-day management, academic leadership, staff supervision and ensuring compliance with national education policies, including those linked to the Free Quality School Education programme.
The TSC, established to professionalise the teaching service, has in recent years carried out verification exercises, payroll clean-ups and disciplinary processes aimed at improving accountability and teacher deployment. Reinstatements after counselling or review processes form part of efforts to stabilise school leadership and minimise disruptions to teaching and learning.
Local education stakeholders in Bombali are expected to facilitate smooth handovers and support the returning principals as the academic calendar continues.
The Commission’s call for community cooperation underscores the importance of unity among all parties to safeguard pupils’ education and maintain stable school operations in the district.
