Rabat, Morocco – 11 June 2026 – In a significant step toward tackling Sierra Leone’s housing shortage, the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shelta Afrique Development Bank and TAF Global Africa to build affordable residential units and university student accommodation across the country.
The agreement was formalized today by Dr. Turad Senesie, Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, on the sidelines of the Annual General Meeting in Rabat.
The partnership focuses on delivering much-needed homes for ordinary citizens while giving priority to student hostels, addressing a long-standing gap in higher education infrastructure.
Officials described the MOU as a natural extension of the Ministry’s ongoing reforms, which have recently shifted onto a more sustainable trajectory.
By partnering with international development institutions, the government aims to accelerate progress in solving chronic housing challenges that have affected many Sierra Leonean families.
“Shelter remains at the heart of our governance agenda,” a government statement noted. “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to responding decisively to the housing needs of our people.”
The initiative is expected to ease pressure on urban housing markets and support the growing student populations at universities nationwide.
Further details on project timelines, funding amounts, and specific locations are anticipated in the coming weeks as implementation planning begins.
