Freetown – President Julius Maada Bio has reappointed former Inspector General of Police Ambrose M. Sovula as chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition, highlighting a return to public service for the veteran law enforcement leader.
The Office of the President issued the public notice on February 13, 2026.
This move is part of a broader slate of five new appointments to key public institutions, aimed at enhancing governance and security oversight across the nation. Sovula’s nomination remains subject to parliamentary approval where required.
Sovula, who previously led the Sierra Leone Police and spearheaded significant reforms in national security operations, is expected to play a pivotal role in advising on arms control policies. His expertise is seen as crucial for addressing ongoing challenges in regulating small arms and ammunition, contributing to broader efforts in public safety and stability in Sierra Leone.
The appointment has sparked discussions on social media, with local outlets highlighting it as a strategic re-entry for Sovula into government affairs.
No immediate comments from Sovula or the opposition have been reported, but the development underscores Bio’s administration’s focus on experienced figures in security-related positions.
