The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), with support from the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports, has on Wednesday, February 26, officially unveiled Mohamed Kallon as the new Head Coach of the national senior men’s football team.

The appointment of Kallon, one of Sierra Leone’s most celebrated footballers, marks the beginning of a new era for the national team. The unveiling ceremony, held at the federation’s office in Freetown, was attended by key stakeholders, including SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima, Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson, NSA Executive Director Dr. Emanuel Safa Abdulai, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Abdulrahman Swarray, and Director of the Ministry of Sports Haroun Korji.

A Popular Choice for the Nation

Speaking at the ceremony, SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima expressed confidence in Kallon’s ability to lead the national team, emphasizing that his appointment was driven by the overwhelming support of the public.

“He is the people’s choice at this time, and we had to listen to their call. Kallon has the experience, professionalism, and passion for the game. We believe he is the right man for the job,” Brima statstatd.

A Three-Year Contract with Performance-Based Renewal

NSA Executive Director Dr. Emanuel Safa Abdulai congratulated Kallon on his new role, praising his contributions to Sierra Leonean football both as a player and now as a coach. He revealed that Kallon has been offered a three-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on his performance.

“This appointment is a significant step for the development of our football. Kallon has already made history as a player, and now he has the chance to inspire a new generation as a coach,” Dr. Abdulai said.

Kallon’s Commitment to Success

In his remarks, Kallon expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and vowed to give his all in leading the Leone Stars to international success.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility. I have served my country as a player, and now I am determined to do so as a coach. My goal is to qualify the team for major international tournaments, just as I did as a player,” Kallon stated. He also extended his appreciation to the SLFA, NSA, and the people of Sierra Leone for their confidence in him.

Preparation for World Cup Qualifiers Begins

Kallon will begin training with the team tomorrow, Thursday, February 27, at the SLFA Academy at 7:00 AM, as he sets his sights on the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Leone Stars will face Guinea-Bissau on March 20, 2025, followed by a tough encounter against Egypt on March 25, 2025.
