In a disturbing event in Mattru Jong, a young girl was brutally assaulted by her aunt before school hours, leaving her with visible facial bruises.
The incident was reported by a concerned member of a local mothers’ club, who immediately took the victim to the Family Support Unit (FSU) at the Mattru Jong Police Station.
The case was quickly escalated to the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs through the One-Stop Center for Action. The child was promptly hospitalized, where medical professionals provided care for her injuries.
Authorities charged the aunt with assault, and she appeared before Magistrate Mohmoh Lansana at the Mattru Jong Court. After being held at the local female correctional center for two nights, the perpetrator returned to court and pleaded guilty to the charges.
Following the court’s decision, the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs took custody of the child to ensure her safety. Through extensive assessments, the ministry located the girl’s biological parents and successfully reunited her with them.
The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs remains at the forefront of protecting vulnerable children across Sierra Leone, reaffirming that violence against children will not be tolerated and offenders will face justice.
