Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced that several key areas in Freetown will experience planned power outages as repair works commence on the 33Kv power line spanning from Kingtom to Wilberforce.
The outages are expected to last from October 2nd to October 8th, 2024, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
In a public notice issued by EDSA on October 1st, the Authority stated that the outages are necessary for safety reasons while suspected defects along the Kingtom-Wilberforce line and the Blackhall Road Substation are being rectified.
According to EDSA, the contractor responsible for constructing the line will oversee the repairs.
“The 33Kv power line will be decommissioned to enhance the safety of personnel and equipment during the repairs,” the notice explained.
Residents and businesses in the following communities will be affected: Wilberforce, Regent, Lumley, Goderich, Malama, Wellington, Report, Jui, Hastings, and Waterloo.
EDSA further assured the public that they are “working closely with the project line construction team to ensure that repairs and maintenance are completed within the estimated timeline.”
In addition, EDSA apologized to its customers for the disruption in service. “We sincerely apologize to our valued customers for the inconvenience caused by the power supply breakdown and thank them for their patience and understanding,” the statement read.
The Authority urged residents in the affected areas to prepare accordingly for the scheduled outages.
