Freetown, Sierra Leone – In response to the recent public announcement regarding the reduction in the wholesale price of a bag of rice, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, in collaboration with the Motor Drivers Union and other key stakeholders in the transport sector, has officially revised public transportation fares for the carriage of rice.
Effective Friday, January 17, 2025, new transportation fares for trailers and trucks from Freetown to various destinations across the country will come into effect. This measure is expected to ease the financial burden on consumers and encourage equitable distribution of rice nationwide.
