On Friday, June 7, 2024, a severe thunderstorm swept through Morfindugu Chiefdom in the Falaba district, resulting in the deaths of 28 cattle.
These animals were being held under secure custody for breaching international importation procedures.
In response to the incident, the District Agriculture team, alongside other district authorities, has initiated several measures.
“We are taking steps to protect the remaining cattle and are raising awareness to prevent people from buying meat from unusual sources,” a press release from the Government stated.
Additionally, samples from the deceased cattle are being collected for laboratory testing and further investigation.
Residents of Falaba are urged not to consume or sell any meat from the affected area.
“We call upon all residents to avoid meat from the thunderstorm incident site under any circumstances,” the release emphasized.
Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
