Freetown – In a decisive move to address traffic congestion and enhance public safety, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has demolished a series of makeshift structures at Model Junction in the east end of Freetown.
The operation, which was carried out earlier this week, is part of a broader initiative by the SLRSA to reclaim key road corridors and improve mobility for both pedestrians and motorists.
According to the Authority, the proliferation of illegal structures had been contributing to heavy traffic build-up and posed significant risks to road users.
The Authority emphasized its commitment to maintaining clear and accessible roadways as part of its long-term strategy to modernize urban transport and enforce traffic laws.
Residents and commuters in the area have expressed mixed reactions, with some praising the move as overdue, while others voiced concern over the livelihoods of traders displaced by the demolition.
SLRSA has encouraged affected individuals to relocate to designated trading zones, as the agency continues similar operations in other congested parts of the city.
