Freetown, 26 June 2025 – The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has strongly condemned the violence and disruptions that marred the National Young Generation Council (NYGC) elections held in Bo on 21 June 2025.
In a statement released Thursday and signed by the party’s National Secretary-General, Lawyer Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the SLPP expressed deep regret over the chaotic scenes, describing them as a setback to the democratic process and a missed opportunity to promote credible leadership among the party’s youth.
“The unfortunate events in Bo are inconsistent with the values of peace, tolerance, and internal democracy that our party holds dear,” the statement read.
It also emphasized that acts of violence, intimidation, or physical confrontation during party activities will not be tolerated.
As part of efforts to restore order and integrity to the process, the party announced that fresh elections for the positions of National Young Generation Leader, Deputy Leader, and Secretary will be held on Sunday, 29 June 2025.
The rerun is scheduled to take place at the SLPP’s national headquarters in Freetown, with participation strictly limited to accredited youth delegates and their official agents.
The party urged all members, especially young people, to remain focused on unity, discipline, and service to the nation.
“The SLPP remains fully committed to strengthening democratic participation at all levels, particularly among our future leaders,” the statement concluded.
