Freetown, October 14, 2025 — The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has strongly condemned threats made against Truth Radio broadcaster Amadu Lamrana Bah, describing the incident as a serious assault on press freedom and a violation of constitutional rights.
The threats came to light after a disturbing video circulated on social media, allegedly recorded by Madam Admire Bio. In the footage, an unidentified male voice is heard using offensive and abusive language directed at Bah, including threats of violence.
The confrontation reportedly stemmed from Bah’s commentary on the harmful effects of Kush, a synthetic drug that continues to devastate young people across Sierra Leone.
SLAJ President, Alhaji Manika Kamara, expressed alarm over the incident and urged the police to treat the matter with urgency.
“Threats against journalists are unacceptable and must be dealt with seriously,” Kamara said.
The Association stressed that intimidation of journalists not only endangers individuals but also undermines freedom of expression guaranteed by the 1991 Constitution. Citing Section 11 and Section 25(1), SLAJ reminded the public that the press plays a critical role in safeguarding democracy and ensuring government accountability.
SLAJ further called on the Sierra Leone Police to launch an immediate investigation and ensure journalists can carry out their duties without fear of reprisal.
The Association also appealed to citizens, political leaders, and public officials to respect the role of the media as a watchdog in society.
“SLAJ stands firmly with Amadu Lamrana Bah and all journalists dedicated to truth and accountability,” Kamara added. “An attack on one journalist is an attack on every Sierra Leonean’s right to know.”
