Sierra Leone’s national football team, the Leone Stars, has made strides in the latest FIFA rankings, ascending one spot to claim the 126th position.
This rise comes as a beacon of hope for the team, although they still trail in the 35th spot within the African continent.
In their quest for the 2026 World Cup, Coach Amidu Karim’s squad embarked on their journey last November, notably securing a goalless draw against Ethiopia.
However, recent performances paint a less optimistic picture, with the team enduring three losses and only managing two draws in their last five matches, failing to clinch a single victory.
Meanwhile, AFCON 2023 winners Ivory Coast moved up to fifth in Africa and 38th in the world.
Beaten finalists Nigeria were the biggest movers, now in third in Africa and 28th in the global standings.
At the top of the overall rankings there is no change with Argentina still leading the way from France and England.
