In a recent announcement by the Ministry of Works and Public Assets, the National Grand Coalition Party (NGC) has vehemently denounced the drastic toll gate price increases along the Wellington-Masiaka highway.
Describing the decision as alarming, the NGC expressed deep concern over the toll hike, which surpasses 100 percent, citing its potential to exacerbate the economic hardship faced by Sierra Leoneans.
“The toll hike will undoubtedly burden our citizens with additional financial strain, affecting their ability to afford essential needs such as food, education, medical, housing, clothing, and more,” stated a spokesperson for the NGC.
Highlighting the toll increase’s timing amidst already challenging economic conditions, the NGC emphasized the toll’s potential impact on transportation expenses and the overall economic well-being of citizens. Moreover, the NGC underscored the cumulative effect of recent cost rises in fuel, transportation fares, and vehicle charges, further amplifying the financial burden on the population.
Calling on the government to reconsider its stance, the NGC urged prioritization of citizen welfare and avoidance of policies exacerbating economic challenges.
Emphasizing dialogue with stakeholders and exploration of alternative solutions, the NGC reiterated its commitment to advocating for the Sierra Leonean people’s best interests.
The NGC concluded its statement by reaffirming its dedication to holding the government accountable for policies adversely affecting citizens’ well-being.
