Freetown, Sierra Leone – January 2, 2025 – This morning, all courts across Sierra Leone will suspend proceedings to honor the late Justice Ivan Sesay, esteemed Justice of the Court of Appeal.
A tribute and solemn session, accompanied by the opening of a book of condolence, will take place at High Court No. 2, Law Court Building, Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, commencing at 9:30 AM.
While court sessions are on recess, registries will remain operational for legal filings and administrative matters. The Honourable Lord Chief Justice, along with members of the Judiciary Bench, will attend the session fully robed with wigs, and it is anticipated that attending lawyers will observe the same formal attire. The public is invited to participate in this commemorative event.
Justice Ivan Sesay’s funeral is scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2025, during Juma prayers in his hometown of Rotifunk, Bumpeh Chiefdom, Moyamba District.
The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has expressed deep regret over his passing.
