Sierra Dolphins Captain, Joshua J. J. Wyse, OLY, has been granted a prestigious one-year scholarship to train at the renowned Thanyapura High Facility Training Center in Phuket, Thailand.
This scholarship comes after Wyse’s exceptional performance at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
His training in Thailand aims to prepare him for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, making him the first Sierra Leonean athlete to secure a spot in the prestigious event.
The lack of proper training facilities in Sierra Leone prompted the President of Sierra Leone Aquatics, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Turay, and Secretary General Abdul Turay, to meet with World Aquatics President, Captain Husain Al-Musallam, and Madam Vita Balsyte, to highlight the challenges faced by the country’s swimmers.
The successful meeting resulted in the approval of the scholarship for Wyse, acknowledging the need for better facilities to support the development of athletes in Sierra Leone.
The one-year scholarship covers essential expenses such as feeding, internal transportation, and lodging at the Thanyapura Centre.
Wyse’s dedication and potential have earned him this unique opportunity to train in a world-class facility and represent Sierra Leone on the global stage.
The Sierra Leone Aquatics delegation is expected to return to Sierra Leone from Japan this weekend, following their participation in the World Aquatics Championships and General Congress.
With this scholarship, Wyse embarks on a transformative journey, gearing up to make his mark at the highly anticipated Paris 2024 Olympics.
