In the wake of a historic U.S. election, former Sierra Leone’s main opposition leader and presidential candidate for the All Peoples Congress (APC), Dr. Samura Kamara, has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump, who was announced as the 47th President of the United States on November 6, 2024.
Trump won over Democrat Kamala Harris in a tight race, marking a significant return to the political stage.
Kamara shared his message via X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Congratulations to Donald Trump on being elected as the 47th President of the United States! Sierra Leone and the U.S. share a long-standing, positive relationship built on mutual respect and support.”
Kamara, who has been a prominent voice in Sierra Leone’s political sphere, notably as a two-time presidential candidate in the 2018 and 2023 elections, expressed optimism for U.S.-Sierra Leone relations under Trump’s leadership.
“As the Presidential Candidate of the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party… I look forward to working together to strengthen these ties and collaborate on shared goals,” Kamara wrote.
He also appealed to the U.S. for support in Sierra Leone’s ongoing democratic efforts.
“Your leadership can inspire and support Sierra Leone’s democratic aspirations, including our current pursuit of electoral justice, following the severely rigged and widely disputed June 24th, 2023 election process and results,” he added, criticizing the recent electoral process in Sierra Leone overseen by the country’s Electoral Commission.
Kamara closed his message with hopes for Trump’s success in office, saying, “Best wishes for a successful term! God bless the United States of America! God bless the Republic of Sierra Leone!”
Trump’s win follows a campaign marked by both domestic and global attention, with many observers noting the potential impact on U.S. foreign policy.

People forget so soon that it’s under TRUMP’s Presidency that the fraudulent Kenyan’s elections was swiftly turned around amongst others. So we welcome and congratulate the 47th President of the USA and encourage him to look into the elections theft by the electoral commission for Sierra Leone and Maada Bio, who continue to subject Sierra Leoneans into abject poverty, killings, harassment, restriction of movement of people, thanks to the ECOWAS Parliament, which ruled against the unnecessary restrictions of movement of people by the Maada Bio administration. Maada Bio is a demon in human, while Dr Samura MW Kamara President Elect’s politics is away above African standards. No wonder people are struggling to understand him. We cannot wait to see the restoration of Democracy in Sierra Leone.
